What is REBEL VERSES you ask?

REBEL VERSES is the first youth-based theater festival of its kind.  Heading into our 7th year, the festival provides a unique opportunity for young artists to write, act, direct and produce theatrical work.   Culminating in a two-week run that showcases various youth organizations, young and emerging artists, the repertory format of the festival offers a rare chance for fellow artists to view each others performance and network with their peers. Connecting all the diverse youth organization around the metropolitan area is a major component of Rebel Verses.

This festival was born out of the dire need here in New York City for new voices in theater.  It is a journey into stories you might not know, told by people you might have forgotten.  Our collective is youth-based, our extended family is ageless, sexless, raceless and timeless.

REBEL VERSES 2007 Tech Info

If you did not receive the stage layout, you can download it at: CenterStageLayout.pdf.

*Please give Jill your stage plot (Marked exactly how your stage will be set) along with 2 copies of your script clearly marked (with sound and light cues) for booth technicians A.S.A.P.

A. Lights: You are allowed 4 LIGHT CUES: two of these cues include lights up at the beginning of your piece and lights down at the end of it.

B. Sound: You are allowed 2 SOUND CUES: one of these cues will includea song at the beginning of your piece, if you so desire.  You are not allowed to end your piece with a song unless you end the evening. Your sound cues need to be burned onto their own CD in order that they are played, and clearly marked with your show title, your name, and your phone number.

The BOOMBOX Question:
You are allowed to bring your own boombox with your own sound, music, or otherwise, if you want.  But be aware that you must have your own person to run that boombox.

There will be a "god-mike" available for use in the lighting booth.  If you would like to use the microphone, please let us know in advance to tech.

C. Set: You have a choice from 2 REHEARSAL BOXES, 2 WOODEN CHAIRS, 1 SMALL SCHOOL DESK, 1 BENCH, 1 COFFEE TABLE.  You may use any combination of these pieces but only from what is mentioned.  You may not bring any extra set pieces.

D. Props: You are allowed a MAXIMUM of 3 PROPS.

Additional Tech Info

At TECH please only speak to Jill and not the technicians in the booth.  We only ask this because tech will go at a much smoother and faster pace if the technicians only have to listen to one person.

Tech Time:  PLEASE RESPOND TO THE TECH EMAIL.  Please review the date and time of your tech.  Please confirm the date and time of your tech.  Be on time for your tech

Outlets:
There are two outlets located directly onstage and one outlet located just offstage towards the house.  If the extension cord is long enough, technically, you can put the boombox (or anything that needs to be plugged in) anywhere.

Artistic Feedback:
Jill DeArmon has graciously offered her time to watch any production in Rebel Verses.  If you want notes, she'll give you notes.  If you don't want notes, she won't give you notes.  Sometimes it's good just to have a new set of eyes come in.

Non Tech Issues

Rehearsal Space at CSNY: To book rehearsal space in the theater or any of the other rehearsal spaces, you must call 212-929-2228.  We are offering a special $10/hr rate for any room at anytime for RV rehearsals.

Call Time:
The evening begins at 8:00 PM.  ALL actors must be backstage no later than 7:00PM, REGARDLESS of your actual show time.  Sorry guys, the lobby gets really hectic and it will work out better in the long run if everyone's there at the same time.

Intermission:
Intermission is 15 minutes in length.  If your show is in the first half of the night, you may leave at intermission, but we encourage you to stay to see the other shows.  We also ask that you respect your fellow actors who have yet to perform that evening.

Comps:
Writers and directors get comp tickets for their shows only. If you are attending your own show, you must arrive no later than 7:00PM or your seats will be forfeited to the public. Performers that want to see shows can take empty seats or standing room if available.

Program Bios:
For the program, we need the cast list, the writer’s and director’s bios only (no actor bios). Bios must be 50 words or less...No More! Each director/writer is responsible for getting bios to: info@rebelverses.com by February 21.

Don't forget to spread the word about REBEL VERSES!
We want you to have a full house, you want to perform to a full house, John Stamos was in Full House...you get the picture.

If you are unclear about anything, please, please talk to us now!  Remember also, you can get all these information from our website: rebelverses.com.

Hey Kids!

Here we go!

1.  Please check the lineup (www.rebelverses.com - look it's right above).  As of right now, THE LINEUP IS SET.

2.  There is a mandatory writers and directors meeting on February 11 from 2:00-4:00pm.  Please let us know of any conflicts. At least one representative must be present.

3.  For those of you who are not aware of our Tech Guidelines, think minimal (i.e. 3 light cues, 3 sound cues, 3 props, etc.). If you want to get an idea of what this year's guidelines will be, you can see last year's guideline at www.developingartists.org/teamrv06.html. Tech Guideline's for this year will be discussed at the meeting, so it's very important that one rep attend.

4.  In the past, we offered special rates to our "in house" groups.  Now in our 7th year, the lines of "in-house" has blurred. We feel everyone involved is an extention of our family. Therefore, we decided to level out the playing field: We are offering $10 per hour rehearsal space to all groups, depending on availability.

5.  If anyone is still trying to cast their show, please contact us at the theater.  We do have a pool of actors that would love to be involved in Rebel Verses.

As always, any questions, comments, concerns, or emotional outbursts, we're here for you.
